Wartime Wedding

"My lipstick and my engagement ring were two protections against Hitler. I'd never go out without those."
- 1940s bride

A Land Army girl rustles up her bridal trousseau in 1944...

A wonderfully nostalgic presentation about rationed fashion, celebrating the good humour and hard work of the make-do-and-mend era. Inspired by memories of wartime brides as well as Land Army women, there are many anecdotes about the trials and triumphs of getting married during the war. Also, a stunning display of original items, including a 'utility' corset, wooden-soled shoes and a parachute silk dress!

"Just wanted to say what a wonderful evening it was; hugely entertaining and informative and it obviously resonated with many of the members. Thank you very much."
- Julie Wright, Rydal WI

"I just had to send you a note to say how fabulous your 1940s fashion evening was the other night at Worcester Museum. It was so entertaining and Mum and I both enjoyed it immensely!"
- Katie Powell
