Florence Nightingale – the respectable rebel

“No one has ever passed so brilliant an examination or shown herself so thoroughly of all she has to learn as the young, wealthy and graceful Englishwoman.”
- Pastor Fleidner, Keiserwerth Institute

Wealthy and privileged she may have been, but Florence Nightingale still had many challenges to overcome in defying the conventional role of a Victorian lady. The clothes of her youth were meant to emphasise submission and passivity; the fashions of her maturity were ludicrous in their sheer size and inconvenience. Yet Nightingale broke all expectations of her gender and class to pioneer nursing management techniques and revolutionise the use of statistics.
This inspirational exploration of the life and times of an extraordinary pioneer, who, when told "It can't be done" calmly replied, "It must be done.".

“Very many thanks for entertaining Romsey Quilters so beautifully. We were all enthralled with your story-telling (you obviously have a great gift) and absolutely loved the costumes.”
