Votes for Women!

How could women who chained themselves to railings still be so fettered by fashion? And just how much freedom did the `Flappers' enjoy?

Fashion was one of the weapons wielded by the Edwardian Suffragettes; it was also a powerful form of control. We dress a lady from 1903 as she prepares for a march on Westminster, then move forward in time to a debonair `Flapper' of 1928, who's about to motor off to vote. It's an astonishing contrast, revealing just how much clothes are influenced by politics… and how women won the vote!

Our presentation is based on contemporary diaries, letters and newspapers, with a stunning display of authentic clothes and accessories. It will inspire you with admiration for everyone who played a part in this exciting period of women's history.
