Gillian: When I was very small my parents took me to Cannon Hall Museum near Barnsley. We walked the four miles there and the four miles back. At Cannon Hall I saw two beautiful dresses in glass cases. That's when my love affair with fashion began, with that wedding gown and trousseau dress from 1783. I had the romance of these two wonderful dresses in mind creating garments for Portrait of a Lady. Lucy: One word: Cinderella! Having given tours of art gallery collections, telling stories of artists and subjects, I was keen to investigate the interplay between fashion, femininity and art history. And to be dressed like a fairy-tale princess...
