Gillian: What a very merry topic – it's a pleasure to present. All the joys of Christmas with the delights of Regency amusements thrown in for good measure. The Austen family certainly knew how to have fun in the festive season. They left many details about games, gifts and general jollification in their letters, diaries and novels. Modern–day audiences love the fact that there is nothing overly commercial about a Georgian Christmas... just pure delight in family and fireside comforts. |
