Fashioning the Past – secrets of a historical seamstress
(Regency/ Victorian)A fascinating account of how costume historian Gillian Stapleton researches and creates the lovely replica corsets, costumes and bonnets of the History Wardrobe.

Gillian: I created Fashioning the Past to answer some of the many questions asked by costume aficionados at the end of each History Wardrobe presentation. I've been making historical costumes for over twenty years, but before scissors ever cut cloth I surround myself with books, fashion plates, journals, fabric catalogues and contemporary accounts. This talk gives a rare opportunity for the audience to view original garments as well as learning how they were constructed... then replicated. Incidentally, it is the only talk where I'm not in costume, and that feels rather odd! |
| 'Fashioning the Past' is a one hour solo–talk which can focus on Regency or Victorian costume.
